Gotta Stay Fresh

So I'm almost done with my mid-term critiques, finally. I'm staying at the school a little late tonight to make one final push on some work that needs to be handed in tomorrow for my last critique. I don't have a lot of time to do the kind of art I want to do so this post has no "real" art included. BUT, for my "Figure In Motion" class, we are required draw figures in our sketchbook without reference every week for homework, so I'll just post up some of those. Enjoy...or not. It's your choice.

Snakes Vs. Moose

Alright, so this was a class project for Illustration Studio. The teacher had a us pick a random word out of a hat and illustrate the word. First we did a few thumbnails, then the teacher told us which two he wanted to see in a "tighter sketch." So anyway i don't really remember all my ideas, but i got the word "Luck." I ended up doing a final sketch of a woman playing russian roulette with a bunch of dudes and her posse. I was really excited about it, and then the teacher dropped a bomb on us.
"Ok, now i want you to switch sketches with somebody else." So I received a haggard drawing of something that resembled a snake and a moose in some sort of....something. When my classmate described the image to me it made sense of course... Anyway, we had to finish the other person's idea to complete the project. This post is my outcome.
This was really the first time i got into colored pencils, and I used canson paper. I should have picked a darker paper, to make the colors pop more. It all ends up looking kind of flat, but I was pleased with my composition and the accuracy of the moose (maybe not so much the snakes). Since I couldn't really go observe a moose, I just looked up a bunch of images for reference and created one that I thought I looked believable.
All in all, I was pretty satisfied with the project, I just wished the colors weren't as flat. Whatever, I'm not done learning yet am I?

Every Journey Needs To Start Somewhere...

Welcome to Vanguard Art.

This is the blog of an aspiring artist. Not everything will be a masterpiece on here, but hopefully, it'll still be interesting to look at, if anything at all. I am a sophomore at PA College of Art and Design, and i'm not really sure what i want to do with my art anymore. I wanted to get into conceptual art and design, but there are so many other fields out there that it's so hard to settle. Maybe I'll just do what i want when I want.
